Apple has just unveiled its latest iPhone lineup, and this year’s announcement is particularly interesting because it isn’t simply about making the existing iPhone faster.

Apple has introduced the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the all-new iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone.

The three models are aimed at different types of users, but they share one major theme: Apple is pushing the iPhone further in performance, photography, battery life, AI, and display technology.

For Apple enthusiasts in Nigeria who are already thinking about upgrading, here’s what you need to know.

iPhone 18 Pro: A More Capable Pro iPhone

The iPhone 18 Pro is designed for users who want flagship performance and Apple’s most advanced camera system without going for the largest iPhone.

One of the biggest changes is the new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. This is particularly interesting for people who take photography seriously because variable aperture gives the camera more control over how much light enters the lens and how much of a scene remains in focus.

That means better flexibility in situations ranging from low-light photography to portraits and group photos.

Apple has also introduced new Pro controls that give users more control over settings such as aperture, shutter speed and white balance.

Under the hood is Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, built using a 2-nanometer process. Apple says the chip brings substantial improvements in CPU, GPU and on-device AI performance.

The iPhone 18 Pro also gets Apple’s latest iOS 27 experience, including the next generation of Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI experience.

iPhone 18 Pro colours

The iPhone 18 Pro comes in four finishes:

Storage options range from 256GB to 2TB, giving users plenty of room for photos, videos, apps and professional content.

Apple has announced a starting U.S. price of $1,199.

Pre-orders officially begin September 12, with availability beginning September 18.

iPhone 18 Pro Max: For Those Who Want the Most

If battery life, screen size and maximum performance are your priorities, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is the model to look at.

It includes the same A20 Pro platform and advanced camera system as the iPhone 18 Pro, but Apple has made the Pro Max particularly attractive for users who want the biggest possible experience.

Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro Max delivers its biggest increase in battery life ever for an iPhone, with eSIM-only models offering up to 45 hours of video playback.

That’s a significant consideration for people who spend long hours travelling, working, streaming, gaming or creating content on their phones.

The Pro Max also gets the new 48MP Fusion camera with variable aperture, Pro camera controls, Apple Intelligence and the redesigned Dynamic Island.

It is available in the same four colours:

Black, Silver, Glacier and Burgundy.

Storage options are 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299 in the U.S.

For someone who doesn’t want to compromise on screen size, battery life or storage, the Pro Max is arguably the most complete traditional iPhone in the new lineup.

And Then There Is the iPhone Duo

This is where Apple’s latest lineup becomes much more interesting.

The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable iPhone.

Rather than simply making a larger traditional smartphone, Apple has taken the familiar iPhone experience and introduced a completely new form factor.

When closed, iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display that makes it practical to use like a conventional phone.

Open it up and you get a 7.6-inch inner display, giving you a much larger canvas for multitasking, gaming, watching videos, browsing the web and working with multiple apps.

Apple says the inner display is its largest iPhone display ever.

The Duo is powered by the same A20 Pro chip used in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, so this isn’t simply a foldable designed around its display. Apple is positioning it as a high-performance iPhone in a completely new format.

The foldable design also introduces new ways to use iOS, including side-by-side apps, hands-free FaceTime and flexible viewing angles.

For people who have been waiting for Apple to enter the foldable smartphone market, this is arguably the most interesting announcement of the event.

iPhone Duo vs iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro Max

So which one should you choose?

Choose iPhone 18 Pro if:

You want a powerful flagship iPhone with the latest camera technology but prefer a more manageable size.

It’s particularly attractive to photographers, content creators and professionals who want advanced camera controls without moving to the largest model.

Choose iPhone 18 Pro Max if:

You want the biggest traditional iPhone experience.

The Pro Max makes the most sense if you prioritize battery life, display size, camera capabilities and maximum storage.

It’s also the obvious choice for people who use their iPhone as a primary entertainment and productivity device.

Choose iPhone Duo if:

You want something completely different.

The Duo is for people who want the flexibility of a foldable phone while staying inside Apple’s ecosystem.

The 7.6-inch inner display makes it especially interesting for multitasking, entertainment, gaming and productivity, while the 5.4-inch outer display keeps the phone practical when folded.
